DoseSpot (e-prescribing)

DoseSpot is the e-prescribing service behind Ready Practice. Once it is connected, a registered provider writes a prescription from the client's record and it goes electronically, through the Surescripts network, to any retail or mail-order pharmacy in the country. The prescription then appears on the client's medication list here, so the record shows what was actually sent.

There are two parts to setting it up: connecting your organization, which an administrator does once, and registering each prescribing provider, which every prescriber completes for themselves.

Before you start

  • You need the Admin role to connect the organization.
  • Each provider who will prescribe needs their NPI (National Provider Identifier, the ten-digit number that identifies a clinician) and, for controlled substances, their DEA registration. They will also complete identity verification themselves.

Connect your organization

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations and find the DoseSpot card, which reads "E-prescribe medications via Surescripts". Click Enable E-Prescribing.
  2. Ready Practice provisions your organization with DoseSpot. There is no separate sign-in; the card shows Connected when it is done.

Register each prescriber

Connecting the organization does not let anyone prescribe yet. Each provider registers individually, with their NPI and identity verification, following the steps in E-Prescribing. Start this well before it is needed: verification is not instant, and an unregistered provider simply does not see the prescribing option.

Prescribing is regulated

E-prescribing is available as an add-on for organizations with prescribing providers. A provider cannot send anything until their own registration is complete and verified, whatever the organization's connection status.

Disconnect

Click Disconnect on the DoseSpot card. Prescriptions already sent are unaffected; providers cannot write new ones until the organization is reconnected.

Next steps

  • Write a prescription: the E-Prescribing page walks through the first one.
  • Keep the medication list current: prescriptions land on the client's record automatically; anything prescribed elsewhere is added by hand there.
